Abstract

Diseases of the biliary tract with high prevalence and affects a significant amount of world population. The gallstones, for example, estimates that it reaches 25 million people in the United States, where they diagnosed a million new cases per year, resulting in 600 thousand operations during this period. Imaging tests are a means of fundamental importance in the investigation of diseases of the gallbladder, as manifest with nonspecific symptoms. Ultrasonography is one of the most used tests in the evaluation of disorders of the gallbladder. It is considered the initial imaging method for diagnosis of biliary tract, because it has high sensitivity and specificity for the detection of disturbances with an accuracy of up to 96% and has several advantages. Thus, this article aims to review the main aspects involved in ultrasound cholecystolithiasis as thick bile, gallstones, gallbladder hydrops, infections and tumors, to enable a better understanding of the subject.
