Abstract

The aim of this review is to highlight the contribution of ultrasonography (US) in the diagnosis of uterine fibroids during pregnancy and its outcome during pregnancy and the postpartum period. We included the major studies published between 2004 and 2012, surveyed in the Pubmed and Lilacs, and that can be incorporated into evidence levels A and B, according to the precepts of the Brazilian Medical Association. The review concludes that the US guides the management and prognosis of patients with uterine fibroids during pregnancy and the postpartum period, and may decisively influence in preventing complications.
