Abstract

Objective: Highlight conceptual elements related to ultrasound and its applications in medicine, ultrasonography and conceptualize their use in the verification process of tumors, conduct discussion on the use of ultrasound in identifying adrenocortical tumors and highlight the importance of ultrasound in diagnosis and treatment of adrenocortical tumors. Methods: Study literature, qualitative and descriptive, using the database SciELO, PubMed, Medline, Lilacs, with descriptors “ultrasonography” and “adrenal tumors”. discussion: First, an approach the origin of ultrasound and its use in medicine was taken. After this, aspects of adrenal tumors, both benign and malignos. Finally, were highlighted a general approach to these tumors ultrasound was taken. Conclusion: Proved the real importance and efficacy of ultrasound as a diagnostic imaging tool in detecting adrenocortical tumors.
