Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Placenta previa is becoming increasingly frequent, it occurs when the placentation occurs in the lower segment of the uterus, so that is below the fetal presentation and recap the internal opening of the cervix partially or completely. There are three types of placenta previa: full, partial and marginal and one of the most feared complications of placenta previa is placenta accreta. Ultrasound has been the method of choice for detection in the diagnosis of placenta previa by Serer a highly accurate test for the diagnosis of placenta previa. In experienced hands, its accuracy exceeds 90%. OBJECTIVE: To show the prevalence of placenta previa in tests on obstetric ultrasound. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 7376 exams obstetric ultrasound, from within the 28th week of pregnancy, performed in the Clinical Diagnostics Fertile, in the years 2009 and 2010. RESULTS: Most tests analyzed, 7332 (99.4%) showed placental insertion topic, followed by placenta previa 44 (0.6%) patients. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of placenta previa was 0.6% and the types of placenta revia were marginal at 82%, partial 16% and 2% of the total cases analyzed.
