Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Until recently, it was discussed what would be the best imaging method for diagnosis of breast and there were varying opinions and conflicting. Today, there is an almost general consensus that mammography and ultrasound are complementary and constitute powerful weapons in the fight against preventive mammary pathologies and should be used in the correct assessment of mammary glands. The most frequent pathologies of the breast are cysts, solid mass, breast cancer among others. OBJECTIVE: Determine the frequency of mammary pathologies under sonographic vision and establish the most common pathological sonographic findings in breast ultrasound. METHODOLOGY: We retrospectively analyzed 872 ultrasound examinations of the breast, made in the Fertile Clinical Diagnostics, located in the city of Goiania-GO between the period January to December 2010. The examinations were performed on two-dimensional mode with linear dynamic equipment in frequency from 7.50 MHz. The data were broken down according to age and diagnosis of examinations of each patient. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The frequency of mammary pathologies view sonography was 33.39% The most common breast pathologic findings were observed: cysts and nodules.
