INTRODUCTION: The use of cosmetic fillers has increased since the beginning of the 1990s, as did complications derived from it. Meticulously evaluating the ecographic aspects of normal skin and aging-identifying parameters, we are guided by the aforementioned usage increase as we identify the different cosmetic fillers available, aimed at optimizing said treatment. OBJECTIVE: To systematically approach skin evaluation, skin-aging identifying techniques, the identification of ecographic rejuvenation patterns, and pathological alterations observed during treatments, highlighting the method’s importance in fast and effective patient-evaluation and its contribution to the pharmaceutical industry. MATERIAL AND METHODS: For the purpose of this paper, online databases were utilized. Examples are as follows: elsevier.es, SciElo, onlinelibrary. wiley.com, Revista Brasileira de Cirurgia Plástica, Arquivos Catarinenses de Medicina, Colégio Brasileiro de Radiologia, huepe.uerj.br. From these, eight articles were selected, all published between the years of 2009 and 2017. The scope included any article - among the aforementioned - that demonstrated regular ecographic aspects and the peculiarities of each cosmetic filler. Articles referring to cosmetic treatment of different application areas than the face were left out of this study. CONCLUSION: High-frequency ultrasound stands out as an effective, fast, and painless method of identifying the utilized filler and its possible complications, besides frequently guiding the treatment. It is essential that the industry’s professionals hold knowledge about this field, and that they familiarize themselves with ecographic patterns before and after the performance of the aforementioned procedures, aimed at optimizing the treatment and identifying complications less invasively.
