Abstract

The aim of this study was to review the scientific literature to identify aspects of the lesions caused by endometriosis of the abdominal wall and to evaluate the contributions of ultrasonography for the diagnosis and follow - up of patients with this pathology. The literature review on a quantitative approach was carried out in the PubMed, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) databases. Specific documents were selected on the subject “Ultrasonography and Endometriosis of abdominal wall “. It was evidenced through its results that the ultrasonography through its different techniques allows the identification, characterization and evaluation of the lesion, as well as the observation of its size and location, contributing in the diagnosis and the surgical planning. In addition, it can be used for the follow-up and evolution of the treatment of the disease in the postoperative period. It is concluded, therefore, that there is still a need for further studies and case reports that help define in a more comprehensive way the contributions of ultrasonography, allowing improvements in its use.
