Abstract

Ranula are cystic, non-vascular lesions originating from the sublingual gland or other minor salivary glands that occur on the floor of the mouth that can be classified into two types based on their extent: simple ranula, confined to the sublingual space and plunging rânula, extending into adjacent spaces (submandibular space). The prevalence of single ranula is 0,2 cases per 1000 people. The prevalence of plunging ranula is unknown but appears to be significantly lower. The authors describe a case of this disease diagnosed by ultrasound.
