Abstract

Spiegel hernia, also known as a lateral ventral hernia, being rare and represents about 0.12-0.2% of all abdominal hernias, being asymptomatic in 90% of the cases. The diagnosis of Spiegel’s hernia is difficult because no characteristic symptoms are identified and, often, there is no palpable mass. Only 50% of the cases are diagnosed preoperatively. The most common symptom is pain, but there is no typical or characteristic pain - patients may have a history of herniated jaundice with or without bowel obstruction. The authors describe a case of this disease diagnosed by ultrasound.
