Abstract

Calciphylaxis condition is a rare, but devastating disease, also known as calcific uremic arteriolopathy. It is a complication often observed in patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism due to chronic renal failure. Physiopathologically, it is characterized by cutaneous ischemic necrosis of acute and progressive installation, and secondary to the calcification of blood vessels of small or medium caliber due to calcium deposits in the medial layer of the walls of these vessels. It is a serious disease, whose pathogenesis is unclear, and the best treatment is prevention, especially to maintain adequate levels of calcium and phosphorus. Patients have an increased risk of ischemic cardiovascular events and sepsis associated with superinfection of skin lesions. The mortality reaches 80%. We report a case of this disease in a patient with hyperparathyroidism secondary to chronic renal failure, associated with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) seropositive.
