Abstract

OBJECTIVES: to establish the prevalence of renal tumors in general in ultrasound (US) abdomen, US upper abdomen, US male and female urinary tract; Establish the frequency of solid kidneys tumors. METHODS: cross-sectional study, quantitative and retrospective. We evaluated 1131 electronic records of the US abdomen exams, upper abdomen, US male and female urinary device for various indications or routine in the period June 2015 to February 2016. The variables analyzed were age of patients, gender, occurrence of renal tumor, type of renal tumor: benign kidney tumor and cyst or solid tumor. Exclusion criteria: chart with data and incomplete reports. RESULTS: kidney tumors were identified in 4,8% of patients evaluated, 56,3% female and 43,6% male. Regarding the classification of benign kidney tumor and solid kidney tumor: 89% were diagnosed with benign kidney tumor (simple cyst), 7,3% with complex cysts and 3,7% with solid renal tumor. The average age of patients with renal tumor revolved around the 5th decade of life for both sexes. CONCLUSION: The overall prevalence of renal tumors diagnosed by routine ultrasound abdomen, upper abdomen, male and female urinary tract was 4.8%. The rate of solid kidney tumors was 0,17%.
