Abstract

Described by FabriciusHildanus the Meckel’s diverticulum is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract. The diagnosis is most common in children and about 4-20% of patients can develop complications such as intestinal obstruction, diverticulitis, bleeding, perforation and intussusception. Intussusception, although rare, is potentially serious in adults, which explains the importance of ultrasound examination to aid in early diagnosis.
