Abstract

OBJECTIVES: this work intent to organize a literature review, checking the current parameters for applicability of Doppler ultrasound in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). METHODS: The authors review consulting publications in the databases LILACS, SciELO, MEDLINE, PUBMED, with key words steatosis, ultrasound, Doppler, steatohepatitis and hepatic artery. Studies published in the last 5 years for presentation of the updated technical data presented were used, other relevant sources have been added to development work. RESULTS: A significant increase in the values of the resistance index (RI) of the hepatic artery in patients with a decrease in transaminases after treating NAFLD: hepatic artery IR was 0.60 ± 0.07 before treatment and 0 84 ± 0.25 after treatment (P = 0.001). CONCLUSION:The value of hepatic artery RI represent a model for current and future investigations related to NAFLD, and its applicability is in monitoring and follow up, as regards their treatment in the establishment and modification of a treatment and eventually in prognosis.
